The Shirt...

I think I've mentioned it before....my 7 year old, Tallulah Belle, is her own person. There has NEVER been another like her!
She loves to dress up in all sorts of funny things! You have to KNOW that I didn't dress her for the picture above. ( The orange bow tie?? Where in the heck did that come from? ) That orange shirt is her favorite shirt in the whole universe. It is about 4 years old, and 4 sizes too small. I'll get rid of it, but it always makes it back into her drawer somehow!

Yesterday, I did the unthinkable, i cut it up into little pieces. I took a pattern from it but made it a size (or several) larger, and made her this.

I didn't have any orange fabric on hand, so it is pink. I am sure it will still look lovely with her orange tie and red shorts.

Afraid of her reaction, I didn't let her know what I had done until it was all finished. She made me take her picture with it...that's a good sign!
Now for the bad news! I bought some really cute fabric, and a darling skirt pattern. I carefully cut it out in size "Giant Butt" which is one size larger than I wear "One cookie away from Giant Butt".

It went together really fast. I made sure to press all of the seams as I went to make it look Not homemade. I didn't have to unpick a single stitch!

Unhappily, it turns out that I don't wear "Giant Butt", I wear "Freak-ishly Giant Butt". It fits like spandex pants.....ewwwwwwwwww! Looks like it will probably be re-fashioned into something for my 13 year old. She wears "Teen Pa donk a donk butt" sometimes she fits into a "junk in the trunk" but that is still a little big for her!

"Lola, I guess you know that this means that you are NOT The Biggest Loser. You may get you things and leave the campus!"

ps. could you hand me those cookies? I don't want to have to move!

UPDATE

Here is the cutie pie on her way to school this morning. She made me take her picture again!!

The shirt is darling! And yes T-belle is her own brand and so cute:D

Sorry about the unfortunate skirt incident. I am realizing that everything I hold up at the store that looks "larger than life itself" is probably too small for me:( When will I try on something that looks small but drowns me??

All I can say is "Dream on Diana, you will NEVER be that thin!" heh heh! Hi MOM!!

That is one adorable shirt! You are BRAVE to cut up the old one!

Sizes mean nothing these days. Every brand seems to be a different size. You can be extra huge gigantic butt in one brand and petite butt in another brand.

I myself am thinking about moving to Minnesota where I'm told a gal like me will get lots of "You need to EAT SOMETHING, you are so skinny!"

She's lucky to have a mama who knows how to do that kind of stuff! I can't remember the last time I sewed something for myself. I'm too scared of finding out the size I need to use.

I hate it when you make something and it doesn't fit! I have the cutest skirt ever, but it's only half made. I tried it on halfway through to make sure my seams lined up with my body, and I couldn't get it over my hips! Boy did that sure make me feel like I needed to sit down in front of the TV with a bag of potato chips and a pint of Ben & Jerry's! Love the shirt! I wish I could figure out something cute to make Marshy. Boy clothes are all so plain though.

That was very brave of you to cut up the beloved shirt. I would have been scared to death!! (Just like when I added sleeves to the YW's dress last week.)

The shirt looks great and I am so happy to hear she loves it.

Funny, that orange shirt looks oddly familiar to me. HMMM. You are so awesome (as usual). Love my camera case by the way. And I of coarse could always bring you some cookies, if you would like.

Well first she is like the cutiest thing I've ever seen! You should take her picture now because in a few more years after she buys her own camera with her babysitting money (the disposable income we seem to NEVER have)she will fill up your computer hard drive with 5,000 pictures of herself and you will have to go buy an external hardrive to hold them because YOUR computer now is sooooo sslllloooowwwwww that you have way too much time to eat cookies while your surfin' your favorite blogs.
She would have loved my before kids costume shop!
